Akin Pretends to Apologize

After his ridiculous comments about rape, Rep. Todd Akin (R-MO) issued a video apology in which he admits that his views are harmful and that he did not mean any of them.

Except he didn’t. In fact, this “apology” that he issued wasn’t an apology at all, but another case of Republican double-down syndrome. His campaign website makes it seem like he doesn’t really think that in “legitimate rape” the female body has ways of preventing pregnancy (and that’s why abortion should be outlawed), but if you listen to his haphazard response to the wave of destruction that followed his joining the War On Women bandwagon, he clearly points out that he holds these views in his heart and simply “used the wrong words.”

That’s a fancy political way of saying “I’ll just beat around the bush next time.”
